Luc Lalande is a co-founder of True Innovators, a consulting agency devoted to promoting community-based innovation.

Prior to True Innovators, Luc was Director of the Innovation Transfer Office at Carleton University. While at Carleton University, Luc initiated and helped implement a number of programs and events aimed at stimulating technological entrepreneurship including MentorTech, PaceSetters, Startup Day @ Carleton, the Carleton Technology Advancement Fund and the Wesley Nicol Business Plan Competition. His interests in encouraging the next generation of technology company builders has also motivated him to co-found the Technology Venture Challenge, a regional competition supported by Ottawa's leading technology entrepreneurs, angel investors, high tech companies and professional service providers.

Other initiatives include "Startups Central" a web portal he created linking Carleton to Ottawa-based startup technology companies to help students from across the region seeking jobs and co-op placements. Another project, the Foundry Program, is a community-linked initiative to encourage and nurture innovation and entrepreneurship on campus. He has also worked with the Carleton University Co-op Office in launching the Foundry Ventures Co-op program. To further encourage entrepreneurial activities on campus, he developed and introduced a digital map of 400 technology companies founded by Carleton alumni and faculty.

He was also active in the delivery of the Talent First Network, Luc hopes the end result of past, present and future projects will be the encouragement of Ottawa's next generation of technology company builders.  New initiatives include shared spaces for creative talent in Ottawa, attraction of immigrant tech entrepreneurs and the development of community-based innovation programs.

He was a member of the Advisory Council of the Community Foundation of Ottawa's Engage Program, a novel initiative to inspire local entrepreneurs and investors to invest in the future of the community. He is also an active supporter of OCRI's talent development programs such as Talent Bridge and the Ottawa Innovation Challenge. Past Board involvement included the Ottawa Life Sciences Council, OCRI, the Tech Venture Challenge and the James Street Recovery Program.  He also served on the Board of Advisors for AIESEC Carleton University, and SIFE Carleton in addition to advising the Carleton Entrepreneurs Association.

In recognition of his efforts, Luc was honoured to receive the Des Cunningham Award in April 2002 from OCRI. The award is presented to an individual who had made a significant contribution to forging business-education partnerships or facilitating government-industry interaction.

Luc often cites the Ottawa high-technology community's tremendous goodwill and willingness to share knowledge as the principal reasons for the success of these initiatives.
